Charity and Community

Community

St Joseph’s is a special place where you can be sure of a very warm welcome. Our children, parents, friends, staff and governors are part of an exceptionally strong and supportive community and many remark it is like being part of an extended family.

As a parent you will be both welcomed and encouraged to join our thriving Parents Fellowship Association or enjoy the many events they organise – coffee mornings, craft activities for the children, film nights and treasure hunts and an annual May ball.

Charity

Supporting and being involved with charities is an intrinsic part of life at St Joseph’s In The Park and is a natural way for our children to develop their understanding of the world around them and learn the importance of compassion and support for those who are less fortunate.

The school has a tradition of supporting a range of overseas, national and local charities. Year 6 pupils and the Parents Fellowship Association select additional charities on an annual basis. These have included:

Beyond Ourselves

Adopted a number of years ago as one of our school charities. Beyond Ourselves partners with three community schools in Zambia to help bring much needed education, nutrition and basic medical care to the orphans and vulnerable children in those communities.

Recent fundraising efforts culminated in a trip to Zambia by Mrs Elson and Mrs Ash from our Science department. They delivered a workshop on ‘increasing pupil participation in class’.

In collaboration with Beyond Ourselves, the school hosts Youth Conferences for other schools involved with the charity.
