STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths
The need for skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics has never been greater so it is our responsibility as educators to stimulate curiosity, actively encourage pupils and help them to achieve in these areas.
- Our school offers a fantastic outdoor setting where children can learn over time about the seasons, habitats and may take part in Forest School.
-
Children benefit from visits by STEM Ambassadors and to local companies and organisations.
Children enjoy workshops and school challenges and have recently taken part in the Haileybury Science Challenge and Science workshops at Felsted School and Chemistry at PHC and Bedford. - Since 2015, our Year 6 class has visited the bioengineering laboratories of Queen Mary University of London. The children take part in hands-on investigative activities and meet scientists working in cutting-edge research at the Institute of Bioengineering.
- The children attend workshops run by Glaxo Educational Outreach and visit Science festivals.
- St Joseph’s In The Park hosts its own biennial STEM festivals.
“Events like the Bioengineering Experience are great for children since it takes the science out of the classroom and gives children a real opportunity to expand their horizon with hands on lab activities.” Dr Chowdhury, Senior Lecturer in Bioengineering, QMUL
