Learning Support
Learning Support

There is a culture of Learning Support at St. Josephs In The Park.  Regardless of a child's level of ability or learning style all lessons are personalised to meet the needs of the individual.

For our Junior classes (Key Stage 2) there is a team of experienced, qualified learning support assistants who implement tailored programmes of learning under the supervision of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.  In this way extra support or extension is given to either a small group or individuals.

Individual Education Plans are written for any child whose needs cannot be met by general class differentiation and on these small achievable targets are set.  All staff involved in teaching the child are made aware of an individual’s targets.

For a child with a specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia or dyscalculia) we have a Centre of Excellence for Learning Support known as Woodlands.

Children join Woodlands from Year 3 onwards and have all their English and Mathematics lessons within a well resourced class room, staffed by hightly qualified and experienced Teachers and Learning Support Assistants.  For all other subjects they are fully integrated with their peer group.

Woodlands

Woodlands is a Centre of Excellence in Learning Support for children who have some difficulty with English or Maths because of either a general need for support or a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyscalculia.
